Today was all about the boys. It was Kentucky Kids' Day at school. Rich was shocked at drop off when he saw a red carpet, paparazzi, and Academy Award statues by the doors. Talk about starting your day off right! During the day, they got to dress up and had pictures taken with their classes and brought home little key chains with the photo. The school also had the parents write you child a letter and they passed them out at school today. Trey gave me the sweetest hug when he got home and told me loved my note. Talk about melt your heart!
Tonight we attended the school Open House. The boys were so eager to get there so they could show us around the school, point out their work displayed on the wall and get to visit with their teachers. The boys have wonderful teachers that are perfectly suited for their personalities. What a blessing!
The boys will have their teacher for the next two years since they do kindergarten/first grade combination classes and second/third grade classes. This arrangement allows the teachers to do very specific ability groupings. In the lower primary grades(Josh and Matt) they have clusters of three teachers that rotate students at different times. Josh and Matt are in the same cluster so they spend recess with each other, go on field trips together and do the same homework and projects. The school runs on a 6 day rotation and the students go to specific centers on set days. They all have different teachers for math, art, science, P.E., music and go to the library as well. We could not found a better school than Veterans Park Elementary.
Trey and Mrs. Newton. Trey stands by his All About Me poster that was displayed in the hallway.
Josh and Mrs. Corales. She was Trey's teacher last year.
Josh showed us a journal entry he wrote about a frog and illustrated.
Matt and Mrs. Belcher.
Matt at his desk. He loved showing us his journal and the cool green mask you can see in the picture.
We rushed over to Josh and Matt's baseball game after which is always fun and they did a great job. I was grateful we had our first no homework night of the year since it was non-stop 'GO" all day long. But the highlight of the day was seeing the gleam in their eye, the smile on their lips and the excitement in their voices as they showed us their special projects they worked so hard on and were on display just for us.

Is it a public school the boys are going to? It sounds great! I
didn't realize that Matt and Josh were in different classes- did you do that on purpose?
Marcie,
Yes, Veterans Park is a public school, but it really is the most incredible school I've ever seen. The parent involvement is unbelievable and the PTA sign up is like 99%. What a change from Trey's Louisville school when I was the room mom and no one would help or send in things. You would think that parents would be at least a bit more helpful in kindergarten.
Veterans Park has the highest test scores in the state of Kentucky and the staff in phenomenal. We actually only looked at homes that were in the VPE school zone. You could say the school decided where we would live. It might be the hardest thing to leave behind when we finally say good bye to KY.
Yes, Josh and Matt are in different classes and we did that on purpose. You oouldn't find two more opposite brothers especially twin brothers. After two years of being in the same preschool class, I knew they would do better a part.
Josh is like a little police man watching over Matt ready to tattle on him when I picked them up, but Josh never gets in trouble himself, so it made for many uphappy rides home.
They are happy being separated, but I'm so glad they get to see each other at recess every day.
Later I heard that they do not allow twins to be in the same class in their school, but that may be just a rumor.
You are now VERY informed! Sorry!
Wow -- sounds like a really great school. A little confusing, but its great that they are more flexible to adjust to kids' needs and abilities.
P.S. I'm feeling bad for Mrs. Belcher and the teasing she must get -- I wonder if her name personifies her?!
