Mary Todd Lincoln Home

While the boys were in school, we went downtown and saw the Mary Todd Lincoln Home. It is located in downtown Lexington next to the famed UK Wildcats' Rupp Arena. Rich and I had been inside once, but never got the full tour. Sadly, Rich could still say the same. The girls were good for the first two minutes and then started to freak out because it was totally nap time. Sweet Rich looked at me and told me he wasn't as into the historic homes like I was, so he took both girls and spent the next hour in the van while the girls climbed around. What a sweet husband. Thanks Rich!It was built and used as an Inn until 1832 when Mary's father bought it for their home. My favorite part of the tour was going up the staircase to the landing where Abraham Lincoln would once takes books from the study and read them on floor under the window.Mary suffered so much loss in her life. After the tour, we talked and said she had a lot of misconceptions about her and made us think a bit of Emma Smith; another great woman who's life story could be told in many different ways.I love getting to visit all the historic places we live close to and learning more about the fascinating people who once called Lexington home as well.

It's sad we've been here for two years and haven't seen the Mary Todd Lincoln Home. We need to go.
