The big day finally arrived, but before I unleash my insanely well documented day I have to give a shout out to our amazing friends. First off I have to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Josh and Tiffany for offering Derby tickets to us. I have been in love with the Kentucky Derby far before we moved to the Bluegrass State. This really was a dream come true and something that I didn't think would happen while we were living in Kentucky. My only wish was that your Oaks Day could have been as sunny. I'm so sorry you all nearly drowned in the downpour. What true friends you are to then watch our boys so we could go the next day. Thank you to Todd and Kristi for watching our girls. Brynn cried when Kristi left that night and Kaitlyn only asked her for help with her strollers during dinner. How quickly Mom is forgotten (and I didn't mind one bit!) What a blessing to have such FOREVER FRIENDS. We love you guys!!!
PRE-RACE PHOTOS
While Kristi and Tiffany attended the Oaks on Friday, we all had to pose for a hat picture. Kristi is wearing Tiffany's hat she wore to the Derby last year and Tiffany is in what she wore to Oaks. The Derby Gang: Alcorns, Jackson and Shreeves
Jim and Marcie flew out from Utah. It was so wonderful to spend the day with them and catch up. Marcie and I talked at top speed all day! Rich was shocked when he realized it had been 5 years since they lived near us in Louisville.
Rich and I drove from Lexington, KY (Note that I cannot get any closer to Rich in the photos. The brim hit his shoulder. Big hats are tricky to manuever!)
Kim and Steve live in LaGrange, Kentucky. They have only lived in Kentucky for 3 months. We teased them that is was a false reality to have so easily gotten tickets to the big race!
Tiffany and Josh
Here we are getting our grandstand wristbands. It was like I was back at EFY.
A view of the infield. People were packed in like sardines.
Race # 7 was run on the grass.
Hugh Hefner and his girlfriends attended the race.
We had great seats that were in between the starting gate and the finishing post.
The University of Louisville band played My Old Kentucky Home. I sang it loud and proud and video taped the whole thing!
The horses took a few minutes to warm up on the track.
They load the horses in the starting gate.
Big Brown the winner of the 134th Kentucky Derby. DERBY FASHIONS
We all know it's about the HATS!!!
I found mine at Dillard's. I loved the wide brim, slanted top and feathers and that I could wear something black that I already owned.
Marcie looked darling in her black and white.
Kim had a 1920's flapper look. It was really fun.
Tiffany made this herself! Perfect.
Kristi models Tiffany's from last year. Shake your tassels honey!
Some hats were tame.
Some were bright.
Some matched the clothes.
Some were small
Others were large
Some were embellished
Some had feathers
A few were enormous
This one reminded me of a watermelon. I must have been hungry.
Some were loud
Others nearly made you go blind from their fluorescent hues
Some screamed for attention
While others made you hope they only pull out the entire outfit on the first Saturday of May.
Mint Julep anyone?
Now here's a real jockey!
And this guy only says, "Show me the money baby!"
And yes, they were part of the infield.
This guy went for over the top glam..jpg)
And this is just plain STUPID! Looks like they had a few Mint Juleps BEFORE they headed to the track!
Happy Derby #134!!!!

This is the best post ever!
So many of these pictures with me in them I didn't even know you had taken.
You are the Queen of the Camera. I love it!
I didn't even bother posting my photos of the crazies because I knew you would do so much better. Boy did you!
I had such a great time with you guys this weekend. It just makes me miss you even more.
WHAT IN THE HECK AM I DOING STILL AWAKE?!
What a perfect weekend (well, almost perfect minus the rain) with perfect friends! I'm so glad y'all had such a great day. We had such fun with you and Keenan had a great time with the boys.
What a fun way to document your experience. Only wish my pictures from Oaks were as fun. I think I only have like 3 -- not much fun to take rainy pics.
We are looking forward to seeing you again Memorial Day. We miss your family!
P.S. I found the necklace, program and a sweatshirt.
THANK YOU for sharing!!! I loved seeing Derby 134 from your perspective. The pictures were amazings and you all looked great. I'm so glad you had fun.
Next time you're in Louisville I would love to see you. Maybe we could go to the zoo or something. Molly (and Meg) would love to play with your girls and Sam and Ben would have a blast with your boys.
How fun! I would love to go to the Derby just so I could wear a cute hat. I loved yours by the way. So classy. I'm glad you and Rich got to experience it!
Cheryl,
You don't disappoint! I not longer feel like I missed out because you gave ALL of the details! Loved every second of it and am so glad that you didn't have a rainy day like Tiffany!
Your hat was beautiful! Great choice.
Holy mother of photos Cheryl! I do not even feel bad that I did not get to go to Derby, because after reading your post, I feel like I was there. You are too cute! Tiffany and I are kicking ourselves that we did not go to Derby with you... not because all we got was a shower at Oaks, but because it would have been a BLAST just to watch YOU and your giddy excitement at the races (never mind the horses) :)
I love you!
You guys all look so amazing, you could just stick you on the cover of a magazine...
When I saw the horses in the trailer I thought "oh did they get arrested" LOL! It was late at night..
I'm so glad you had a nice day and the weather cooperated.
Wow I can't believe that fun weekend you had. I love all the hats! What a great memory that will be.
I am amazed at the recap you gave of the whole event. Such amazing details. Someday you really should be a professional reporter or sportswriter or something of the like. You have a total knack for it! I love it! Thanks for sharing!
Great pictures! I knew you'd have a ton, and I love them! I think your photos of the "hat parade" are even better than the professional collections online! And I LOVE the picture of the winning bet! I bet he was so proud!
What beautiful pictures of you ladies in your Derby outfits! You looked classy in your black summer dress and hat. It was just how I pictured it when you described it over the phone.
How fun to go with so many friends and especially to be with Rich for that. Good looking couple! I've never known very much about the Derby, but it seems like such a fun event. Such a huge event. I know it was all over the news the next few days, mostly about the horse they had to put down.
Say hi to the kids for us!!
I am so jealous!!! What a great day for you and Rich!! How fun especially that you knew your kids were in good hands and having a blast as well. I am so glad you got to go Cheryl! I loved the hat or I guess I should say hats! Cute pictures and so fun that you got to be there. You guys deserved this awesome day together. I may have to track down that fluorescent yellow chic and borrow her stuff if I ever get to go. Great post!!
this post made me laugh out loud! i love love love your hat! you looked beautiful as always, it looks like so much fun! my favorite was the security guard that laughed at you for taking a picture, so you took one of him! i am so happy you got to go, you've lived in kentucky long enough, you couldn't possible leave wihtout going to the derby!!!
