MLB Cincinnati Reds

Rich heard on the radio driving home from work on Thursday that the Cincinnati Reds would be playing the Cleveland Indians the next night in Cincinnati. With the Memorial Day weekend approaching and knowing Rich would be beginning a solid week of nights on Saturday, making plans on Monday impossible, we knew that a game on Friday would be perfect. We had only been to one Red's game in our nearly nine years here and that was back in 2004. It was high time we visited the Great American Ballpark again!

Trey and Matt thought the game would be fun, Josh was thrilled because 1) he really LOVES baseball and 2) his rookie baseball team is the Indians. He didn't care for a second if the place would be packed with fans dressed in red, he'd be sporting his Indians uniform and hat to the game. Of course, there would be a few others dressed in blue since it was the "Battle of the Ohios" and there are many Cleveland fans in Cincinnati.
I LOVE Cincinnati. The view of the city when you come around the bend is just breathtaking. I love the various bridges that connect Kentucky and Ohio. I love seeing Paul Brown Stadium where the NFL Bengals play and seeing the Red's ballpark just down the street. It's a beautiful place and filled with so much to do.

Our seats were on the lower level behind leftcenter. We were facing directly west and the HOT sun beat down on us for a good hour. It was over 90 degrees and we were soon wet with perspiration. The girls were begging to go up and purchase a drink and kept stealing my sunglasses. We finally got relief in the third inning when the sun was blocked by the stadium. The boys loved using the binoculars, but before I handed them over I gave them a heavy dose of possible dangers of looking into the sun while using them. Brynn kept herself occupied by hanging on the handrail, until the usher informed me we needed to keep the pathway clear. Our seats were directly next to the Red's bullpen. We watched Arroyo warm up. He pitched 8 of the 9 innings. These guys saw me taking pictures and the guy in red waved. It was funny to have them looking at the camera. I had a good laugh at that one- pregnant crazy woman taking a million photos- yup that's me in a nutshell....The girls liked watching the mascots on the field. But it was even better when they got to get up close with this guy when he came over to our section.
The Indians best player is their center fielder Grady Sizemore. After three innings the girls were a bit bored, so I took them out to explore the park. We bought hot dogs and found this cool mist place they loved running through.
The view of the river is spectacular. There were about five boats on the river waiting for a possible home run ball. The Belle of Cincinnati. This steamboat races the Belle of Louisville every year in the Great Steamboat Race that take place on the Ohio River in Louisville during the Kentucky Derby Festival.I love this bridge.
When we came back, I spotted this guy. Classic. Baseball=Beer. We were constantly swamped with vendors selling various food and drink. This one fella was crazy. He would scream "NUTS" and it would rattle your bones. He would continue "PEA" and then whisper "nuts". "COLD... beer" "Bud...WISE...er." The boys were laughing on the floor. He came by at least four times. Brynn couldn't quite take his intense shouting and would cover her ears. I thought she was as funny as the master salesman. The game was 1-1 going into the 8th inning. The Indians hit a solo home run the first inning. This was an awesome stretch by the Indian's first baseman. We told Josh to take notes. There were a few double plays that were exciting too.
Reds won 3-1.We had no idea until the 6th inning that there would be fireworks after the game. Rich was ready to bale after the 7th inning, but I insisted we stayed for the whole thing. He later said the fireworks were the best part of the night.

Great idea Rich. We all had a "BALL!"

We went to a few Reds games while out there and then took the boys to a game when we brought them out to visit a few years ago. We love the Reds.

Jim believes that the perfect summer night must include a hot dog and a baseball stadium.

That is a little warm, however, I would be with the girls standing under the mist machine.

That looks like so much fun! You take the best pictures. Your kids are so cooperative with the camera too! I love the picture of Matt with his glasses on. I haven't seen many pictures of him wearing them. He looks so handsome. Very cute pictures and what fun memories you've made!!
