Located in what is now Madison County, Kentucky, Fort Boonesborough State Park was rebuilt as a working fort, containing cabins, bunkhouses and furnishing. During the in-season, the fort also houses resident artisans such as blacksmiths and potters who do open demonstrations to give visitors a taste of what pioneer life in Kentucky was like.
A few weeks ago Josh and Matt's classes went to Fort Boonesborough on a field trip. Matt was sick that day, so he missed out on going and was very sad. Forts and Indian battles are right up his alley. I promised him I'd take him to the Fort and to make up for the missed trip, he could even get something at the gift shop.
Our Fall Break was the perfect time to head down to Richmond and make good on my promise. We all had been to the fort before, except Matt. Trey went on a field trip there years ago and I went with a play group a while back.
The weather was cool, but it kept the masses away and we nearly had the place to ourselves. Plus it didn't hurt that we got there in the early afternoon (most school trips come in the morning) and that school was in session in Madison County.
The kids had a ball and the highlights were Matt finding a cool rifle to purchase and Trey staking a land claim to Daniel Boone. It was a very fun day together.

Hayden would be all over that place too. I SO wish that he and Hayden could hang out together....they would be best friends.
