Fishing and Fossils

Early Saturday morning Rich and the boys loaded up the van and headed down near Bardstown for a Cub Scout activity in Spencer County. Out in the middle central Kentucky they fished using Bamboo rods they made, took a hike and collected fossils. It was an intensely hot and muggy day, but they had a ball.

Trey has been begging us to take him fishing for over a year and was ecstatic to catch 4 fish. Much to my relief, they released all the fish. Josh and Matt fished as well, but were unlucky getting bites. Matt did find an extensive fossil collection he happily hauled home.

We also got a few unwanted visitors from the trip. Even with bug spray and long pants, Trey pulled a tick from his side later that night and he and Josh have quite a infestation of chiggers on various parts of their bodies. After nearly a decade of living in the Bluegrass, this is our first bout with these pesky tiny bugs. I have been applying clear fingernail polish to the bites and reminding them not to scratch, but it simply will take some time for these annoying things to go away. One of four he caught.Matt brought home many amazing fossils from their hike.

I'd heard how annoying chiggars could be, but we never experienced them ourselves.......ouch!
