No, its beginnings were many, many years even before that.
I would say it began back in the mid 90's at Stanford when Rich took his first pre-med class. It continued on over the years to BYU when he was a non-degree seeking graduate student finishing up his last science classes and preparing to take the MCAT.
The road was bumpy and winding and long and often brought to mind the infamous words, "Are we there YET?!"
But he kept plugging forward, mile after mile. Year after year. Test after test. Rotation after rotation.
From the short coat to the long. From the intern to the PGY 5.
The long awaited finish line was finally in view.
Yes, there is still one more tape to break in 2011 and then we will finally get to rest and decide what path we will take for ourselves.
But this night was the one we had longed for since we started down this medical journey.
Graduation day.
Not from school, but from residency.
To be a full fledged, board certified medical doctor.
It was night to remember and one I never will forget.
And I could not have been any prouder of my Sweetie.

An excerpt from the June 2010 department newsletter The Radiology Reporter:
June 18th brought to conclusion five years of extensive education and training with a festive dinner at Spindletop Hall, the renowned architectural mansion now housing the UK Faculty, Staff, & Alumni Club. The festivities began with a reception on the patio at 7:00 PM, followed by dinner, formal presentation of awards, and the 3rd year residents’ parody of “personal interviews” of the graduating seniors recounting their experiences as residents in UK Radiology.
Dr. Brooks presented awards and gifts to the departing graduates. Dr. Rich Jackson received the RSNA Roentgen Resident Research Award. The recipient of the RSNA award is selected by Dr. Michael Brooks, Residency Program Director. Dr. Oates presented the 3rd Annual Arthur Lieber, M.D. Radiology Award to Dr. Jackson. The Department’s faculty selects the recipient of the Dr. Arthur Lieber Award. Dr. Joey Bargo’s services as Chief Resident were recognized and Dr. Brooks presented him with a UK COM Captain’s Chair. All the seniors received their diplomas and were given engraved mint julep cups from the Department.
Rich receiving his diploma. There was a professional photographer there taking pictures. Rich made a comment that it was like the NFL draft, minus the hat. He got quite a roar from the crowd.
Dr. Brooks read Rich's list of research accomplishments.
