After our delicious lunch at The Whistle Stop, we drove to Fort Knox to visit the Patton Museum. Melissa Mortenson had told me about this place many years ago when we lived in Louisville. She knew Matt loved army men and thought it would be the perfect place for him. She was right, even if we didn't go until years later.
We have never been to Fort Knox and we all were excited to see a new part of Kentucky before we moved to Ohio and it was only a half an hour drive from Glendale.
The kids loved seeing all the tanks out front and inside and knew a lot about the weapons we saw from video games. (Should I be scared by that?) Everything was hands on and it was a great visit that we got through in an hour.
The General George Patton Museum was established to preserve historical material, enhance the training of soldiers, and for public exhibit and research. The Museum is administered by the U.S. Army Accessions Command at Fort Knox, and is one of the largest in the U.S. Army Museum System.
The original museum was officially dedicated on May 30th, 1949 by Beatrice Patton, the widow of the general.
