Wacky Hair & Flip Flop Day
The end of the school year brings many 'fun days' at school. Yesterday was the official 'Fun Day' where the students played relay games, tossed water balloons and had fun outside. Tomorrow is 'Lunch on the Green' where families come for a picnic on the lawn. Next Tuesday is 'Park Day' where the kids spend the day at the park (2nd-5th graders) or playground (K-1). Today it was all about the hair and the shoes. Trey and Matt wore flip flops, but Trey went all out and decided to create a wild style on the top of his noggin'. I laughed as I put in many tiny rubber bands from the girls' hair accessories. I think it turned out well. So did he.* Post school look*

The Wulfe Brothers
Tuesday morning Veterans Park Elementary had one of their biggest assemblies of the year. The PTA had arranged for the Wulfe Brothers to come and perform. They have come every year we've lived here and I had heard a lot about them from the boys. My neighbor called and said she was going to take her girls and head on over for the show. I wasn't sure parents and siblings were invited (I don't think we were), but the faculty were fine with us being there and let us in. We grabbed a spot in the corner (trying to be inconspicuous) and watched the kids file in. Matt's class walked past us and his teacher let him sit with us. Josh was a little higher off to the side and we smile and waved at him. I saw part of Trey's class come in, but we never got to see or talk with him. The concert was funny and the girls and Zach were perfect, which I was beyond grateful for! The Wulfe Bros. are based in Louisville Kentucky but travel across Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and beyond. Their Educational Family Programs are musical history lessons that delight audiences of all ages. They sang songs about Kentucky and songs written and performed by people hailing from Kentucky. They had the perfect amount on jokes and silly phrases kids love and songs they could move to or sing along with- even Sponge Bob!Matt and the rest of the audience participate in a dance.
The show lasted an hour, which was as long as most the kids attention spans could last.Josh came down and said hello at the end.The girls loved going to the school, listening to the music and being with their brothers. They felt like such big girls!
Victory!!
He had waited so long. He had played so well. He had been patient and gracious in defeat. But the time was finally ours on Saturday morning. Josh's baseball team, The Indians, finally got that elusive first victory!!!
1-12 just looks so much better than 0-13. And while we all know that winning isn't everything, and that you can still have pride in how played no matter what the final score declared, man, it just felt so good to win!Josh fielded the ball well and had some excellent plays on first. But the big story was his hitting. After a solid base hit at his first at bat, he popped up and got out on his second. All the pressure was on when get got to the plate for the third, and final, time of the game. Top of the sixth (last inning), 3-2 for the Indians, runners on 1st and 2nd, two outs and Josh up to bat. He swung hard at the first pitch and crushed it deep into the outfield. The runner that had been at first scored, the runner on 2nd scored and Josh advanced to third. There was a wild throw to third and Josh was waved to head home. He SCORED! His first in the park home run ever. The score read 6-2. My heart was racing. I speed dialed Rich to give him the update. I was one proud Mama.
Soon we were at the bottom of the sixth and our little team just needed to hold the Braves. Three outs- that's all we needed. They got two outs quickly, then we watched in horror as our lead begin to slip away after a few errors in the field. 6-3. 6-4. 6-5. The Braves had runners on 1st and 2nd. We just needed one more out. I was giving Rich play by play on the phone. The next little batter was near the end of their line up. He swung and missed at the first three pitches. He tipped off the fourth. My stomach was in knots. Then the fifth and final pitch. He missed. And while I should have been a little bit sad for the poor fella, I was ecstatic that Josh finally got was he had been missing all year. A win.Success!Celebrating with the brothers. The Indians. Win-less no more.Jay Acosta, assistant coach and team pitcher, gave the ball to our head coach Tim Smith. You could see how relieved and excited he was for the boys.Go Indians! Great job Josh!!!

Baseball Fans
Every game, Josh has a huge cheering section. Whether Josh is the home team or visitor, they can always be found on the side bleacher, just past first base. Here they have a clear view of Josh on the field at first and still have space to run around playing hide and seek or wall ball. The location is also close enough to the concession stand giving them plenty of opportunities for multiple runs for popcorn, hot dogs, ring pops or Gatorade. It's a pretty cute crew, but I guess I'm biased, since I tend to run in their circle.Kaitlyn celebrating Josh's first win!All the excitement wore Zach right out!
