So, it's not quite time for the Run for the Roses, but an important Derby is fast approaching- the Pine Wood Derby. We are the luckiest family in the ward, since we get to make THREE cars (can you hint the sarcasm in this sentence?).
Rich and I do not own a saw, nor are skilled in wood working, so we are so blessed to live in a ward where they use one of their scout nights to cut out the cars for the boys. Generous men in our ward and Pioneer ward haul their equipment to the church and then follow the boys' designs to create their dream racer.
All the boys used Trey's pattern from last year (which just happened to look like his car from the year before that- masterfully inventive, we know). We did make each one just a bit different, in hopes to give Zach the perfect car design down the road.
The best part of the whole thing- the race and the Blue and Gold Banquet is on my birthday. Lucky me. Food and a night of racing at the church. What more could a girl ask for?!

I wont be writing it on my blog (because we have to keep it a secret from Hayden or he would FREAK out).
But Jim and I just ordered a pre-cut body of a car from some guy that makes them on E-bay. We are wondering if Hayden will just believe it came out of the box that way and he gets to paint it and put on the wheels.
There is NO other way that we would be able to pull of a pinewood derby car.
Just thinking about having to make three every year gives me a migraine. What a great thing for your ward to do!
Good luck!
