Roses are red...

Do supplements like sugar or plant food added to water extend the lifespan of roses?9 red roses
3 glasses- 2 cups tap water
3 glasses- 2 cups tap water, 1 tsp sugar
3 glasses- 2 cups tap water, 1 tsp commercial plant food
Marked each rose with its corresponding number (A-1, B-1, etc.)

Selected and marked one petal and one leaf on each rose

Trey measured and recorded the size of each rose petal and leaf daily for one weekAfter gathering the data, we determined what the percentage of change each leaf and petal was from its original size.

Results: Our data did not support Trey's hypothesis that the roses with added sugar would be preserved longer because of the added nutrients. The rate of change between all the roses, regardless of water additives, seemed to be similar.

There were many variables that might result in a change in our results. We could have continued the experiment for additional days. We also could have changed the water or cut the rose stems to help increase water absorption.

* While our results are what they are, I still believe (and after much research online) adding plant food to roses will extend the amount of time they look fresh.
Spent ALL NIGHT putting together the board. Trey presented it in class yesterday and will be judged on Monday. I am SO happy it's all done. I'm still smiling two days later!

Good work Trey!
